Alcoholic Beverages…

Here in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland we are home to a wide collection of independent and family-run distilleries, breweries, and sellers, all of which have gained recognition for their products and services.

With a diverse selection of homegrown, brewed, distilled, and fermented drinks, each product is formed out of a passion for sustainability and a pride of Scottish heritage.

Badachro Distillery Ltd

We are a small, family business located in Badachro, near Gairloch in Wester Ross.

Products span the spirits range including gin, vodka and whisky and focus on artisan production, provenance and personal, ethical business practices. Current markets include, primarily independent on and off trade outlets across the UK, Germany, Austria, Netherlands, Malta, Bermuda and several Canadian provinces.

Dunnet Bay Distillers Ltd

Founded in 2014, by husband and wife team Claire and Martin Murray, Dunnet Bay Distillery, the UK’s most northerly mainland distillery is located on the North Coast 500 route. This craft distillery is famous for producing the acclaimed Rock Rose Gin and Holy Grass Vodka, featuring hand-foraged botanicals sourced from the spectacular cliffs of the Pentland Firth, Dunnet Forest or grown in the distillery’s own garden. Working with the oldest still makers in the world our bespoke pot stills, Elizabeth and Margaret, have been uniquely designed just to create our spirits. Using a traditional handmade copper head along with botanical vapour basket, it is a small batch process of 500 litres. This ensures tremendous care can be applied to achieve best results. Each bottle is filled, individually wax-sealed, batch numbered and hand-signed before it leaves the distillery. Dunnet Bay Distillery is a small, but first-class brand located in the tiny, remote village of Dunnet, Caithness.

This independent family-owned business provides much needed employment in a fragile rural economy. The distillery currently employs 16 staff members to create and market its multi award-winning spirits and promote tourism in Caithness. This has all been achieved without external investment, crowdfunding and with no previous experience of, or connections with the drinks industry.

Isle of Skye Distillers

Located in Portree, Isle of Skye Distillers were the first distillery to distill gin and vodka on the Isle of Skye. Founded by brothers, Thomas and Alistair Wilson, in 2016, the first batch of Misty Isle Gin was launched in early 2017 to great applause.

Provenance is everything – the abiding sense of belonging and community. Taking inspiration from the local landscape; in particular the Old Man or Storr and the Cuillin Mountain Range, the Wilson brothers set out to create a gin that embraced the spirit of Skye. Juniper berries are hand foraged from various locations around the island and the distillery garden is budding with various botanicals.

One special botanical within Misty Isle Gin is kept a secret - but it can only be found at high altitudes on the island. Any trip to Portree would be incomplete without a visit to the Isle of Skye Distillers Gin School and Shop.

Here you will find a range of Scottish goods as well as the opportunity to experience the traditional art of distilling. Join Alistair as he guides you through a three-hour tutored and interactive gin-making experience. All Misty Isle spirits are distilled locally in Portee and everything is completed by hand. Isle of Skye Distillers is 100% independent and is entirely funded by the Wilson Brothers

Windswept Brewing Co.

Since 2012, Windswept Brewing Co has been creating an award-winning range of traditional and contemporary craft beers in Lossiemouth. Started by Nigel Tiddy and Al Read who are two ex-RAF Tornado pilots with a love of the outdoors and of course a great-tasting pint at the end of a day’s adventuring. The focus has always been on capturing and preserving the flavours of all the ingredients to produce excellent quality Scottish craft ale. What doesn’t go into the beer is as important as what does go in. By not using fining additives all Windswept Brewing Co beers are suitable for vegetarians and vegans.

The range now extends to over 24 different beers including pale ales, IPAs, stouts, and porters. Being on the edge of Speyside, there are also three specialty barrel-aged ales to choose from too. In 2018, the Windswept Tap Room opened along with regular brewery tours and tastings. With up to 12 different cask and keg beers served, along with specially created beer cocktails, it has become a destination for locals, tourists, and of course craft beer fans. The bar also stocks the full range of Windswept Brewing bottle beers as well as local gin, whisky, coffee as well as tea, and soft drinks. Wood-fired pizzas are available Friday – Sunday.

The Shetland Distillery Company Ltd

Shetland Reel, distills award-winning London dry gin and creates a blended malt whisky that is finished in Shetland in the UK’s most northerly distillery in Unst.

Initially, our small batch gin production was only available within Shetland. However, word spread, and our gin is now enjoyed by customers all over the world. With demand increasing beyond our expectation we continue to distill all our gin on-site by our small but growing local team.

Ice & Fire Distillery

was born from our local area and a family of Highland Crofters wanting to try something different to sustain our crofting lives. We create artisan gin rum vodka and liqueurs on our Caithness Croft.

We have carried through the crofting and Highland heritage with our ingredients using what has been around in the Highlands for generations. Purple heather is our signature ingredient in Crofters Tears. All the life we have lived with the sight of beautiful blooming purple heather on our doorstep so it was a must in any product and we are delighted that Crofter’s Tears Gin tastes as good as the heather looks.

Caithness Highland Gin uses rhubarb which was and still is a staple in any crofting garden along with salmonberries picked from the Latheronwheel Strath.

Caithness Raiders Rum harks back to the Viking Heritage of Caithness with our ferocious seas and Norse names. This dark spiced rum is the Dark and Wild side of Caithness…..
We prefer to think of our experimenting as a touch of alchemy and it has been hugely pleasurable to produce something we know is truly local and artisan in its origins.

GlenWyvis is the world’s first 100% community-owned, fully sustainable distillery producing both single malt whisky and craft gin. As a community benefit society, a share of all future profits will be invested back into community projects to create an inspiring legacy.

Overlooked by Ben Wyvis, GlenWyvis opened in November 2017 bringing distilling to Dingwall for the first time in over 90 years. More than 3,600 people have now invested £3.8 million to join us on the journey.

Launched in June 2018, GoodWill Gin is a Highland craft gin made from nine premium botanicals, including exotic fruits and locally picked Hawthorn berries. The carefully measured juniper content makes for a smooth taste experience whilst remaining full-bodied. There is a distinct refreshing citrus burst that stays from the first nosing right through the taste to the long and complex finish. Finally, the finish delivers a delicately spiced sensation to warm the palate. Savour it, live in the now, and share the moments that matter.

2021 will see our first whisky released to the world after waiting patiently for our casks to mature. Further releases will be made available over the coming years as GlenWyvis whisky grows in the marketplace.
