Dunnet Bay Distillers Ltd

Founded in 2014, by husband and wife team Claire and Martin Murray, Dunnet Bay Distillery, the UK’s most northerly mainland distillery is located on the North Coast 500 route. This craft distillery is famous for producing the acclaimed Rock Rose Gin and Holy Grass Vodka, featuring hand-foraged botanicals sourced from the spectacular cliffs of the Pentland Firth, Dunnet Forest or grown in the distillery’s own garden. Working with the oldest still makers in the world our bespoke pot stills, Elizabeth and Margaret, have been uniquely designed just to create our spirits. Using a traditional handmade copper head along with botanical vapour basket, it is a small batch process of 500 litres. This ensures tremendous care can be applied to achieve best results. Each bottle is filled, individually wax-sealed, batch numbered and hand-signed before it leaves the distillery. Dunnet Bay Distillery is a small, but first-class brand located in the tiny, remote village of Dunnet, Caithness.

This independent family-owned business provides much needed employment in a fragile rural economy. The distillery currently employs 16 staff members to create and market its multi award-winning spirits and promote tourism in Caithness. This has all been achieved without external investment, crowdfunding and with no previous experience of, or connections with the drinks industry.

Isle of Skye Distillers

Located in Portree, Isle of Skye Distillers were the first distillery to distill gin and vodka on the Isle of Skye. Founded by brothers, Thomas and Alistair Wilson, in 2016, the first batch of Misty Isle Gin was launched in early 2017 to great applause.

Provenance is everything – the abiding sense of belonging and community. Taking inspiration from the local landscape; in particular the Old Man or Storr and the Cuillin Mountain Range, the Wilson brothers set out to create a gin that embraced the spirit of Skye. Juniper berries are hand foraged from various locations around the island and the distillery garden is budding with various botanicals.

One special botanical within Misty Isle Gin is kept a secret - but it can only be found at high altitudes on the island. Any trip to Portree would be incomplete without a visit to the Isle of Skye Distillers Gin School and Shop.

Here you will find a range of Scottish goods as well as the opportunity to experience the traditional art of distilling. Join Alistair as he guides you through a three-hour tutored and interactive gin-making experience. All Misty Isle spirits are distilled locally in Portee and everything is completed by hand. Isle of Skye Distillers is 100% independent and is entirely funded by the Wilson Brothers

Downright Gabbler

Enjoy an evening of fine food and drink, great company, and some fascinating tales of Scotland. We use the best of locally sourced ingredients to explore our history and culture through the drinks that have helped shape our country.

We have a range of different events – lunch, afternoon tea, and dinner – but all offer a chance to savour the best of Highland food and drink, while learning more about the country we call home. We like to say we’re feeding curious minds. We’ve worked hard to create a welcoming atmosphere where everything tells a story - from the antique and vintage cutlery and glasses to our unusual name.

We stock a good range of local Highland beers and spirits. We use local produce as much as possible and our set menus could best be described as traditional Scottish, with a twist. A shepherd’s pie to die for and the best stovies you will ever taste, according to one happy customer. And he was not alone…

“A first-class evening out.” Mary and Ian, Inverness

“Entertaining and delicious.” Jacqui, Moray

“Very tastefully restored surroundings with great attention to detail, excellent food, and an informative and affable host.” Sheila and Ron, Strathpeffer

“It’s hard to pick what was more enjoyable – the delicious food or the riveting storytelling.” Jen and Pauline, Inverness

We will happily cater to most dietary requirements, with a wee bit of notice. If you come to dine and want to stay over, we have 4 luxury self-catering apartments above the restaurant.

The Hebridean Mustard Company

Mustheb is the brand of The Hebridean Mustard Company. We produce artisan mustard in small batches on the Isle of Harris in the wild Atlantic. Each jar is made with organic and premium ingredients, care, and lots of love. This passion and the wild and rugged nature of the Outer Hebrides give our island mustard a distinctive taste.

We are on a mission to bring back mustard on the status it belongs. We’re tired of hearing mustard is just a blob on a plate. Mustard is versatile in many different cooking. Try it out. You will be surprised how mustard lifts, develops, and crows your cuisine.

We want Mustheb to be a part of your daily cooking life. The high quality of our products and the fact that our mustards make you feel good has already led to a growing number of Mustheb fans around the world.

A word on our ingredients: We support Hebridean, Scottish, British, European and international companies (in that exact order). When the taste and quality meets our high standards, we are more than happy to source locally and as close as possible.

We are proud to work with The Really Garlicky Farm in the Scottish Highlands for our reeky Garlic Galore mustard. The Scottish Bee Company supplies us with their finest Scottish bee honeys and we source our various organic vinegars from Aspall in England. And even the jars are made in the UK.

Mustheb: A Must-have from the Hebrides.

Shamerbrea: The Foodie B&B

What could be better, after a day exploring the Highlands, than a traditional, Scottish dinner, hosted in a private home, with an expert cook and hostess to welcome you, and only you! Where you will learn the background to the dishes prepared, and hear personal stories, in the spirit of conviviality that Slow Food stands for.

This experience is crafted in accordance with the principles of Slow Food, ensuring that it is delicious, socially responsible and ecologically sustainable. Slow Food is a global, grassroots organisation, founded in 1989, to prevent the disappearance of local food cultures and traditions.

My dinner table has become a modern day Cleikum Club, where food and wine is enjoyed and discussed, and your hostess is its landlady, Meg Dods (See Sir Walter Scott’s St. Ronan’s Well).
